Centre appoints Jaya Verma Sinha as first woman CEO, chairperson of Railway Board


The Centre on Thursday announced the appointment of Jaya Verma Sinha as the first woman CEO and chairperson of the Railway Board, the apex body of the Indian Railways. She will take charge on or after September 1, 2023, and will serve till August 31, 2024. She succeeds Anil Kumar Lahoti, who retires on August 31, 2023.

Who is Jaya Verma Sinha?

Jaya Verma Sinha is an Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS) officer of the 1986 batch. She is currently posted as the Member (Operations and Business Development) in the Railway Board. She has over 35 years of experience in various capacities in the Indian Railways.

She is an alumnus of the Allahabad University. She joined the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) in 1988 and worked in Northern Railway, South Eastern Railway and Eastern Railway. She also worked as Railway Advisor in the High Commission of India, Dhaka, Bangladesh for four years. The Maitree Express from Kolkata to Dhaka was inaugurated during her tenure in Bangladesh. She also worked as the Divisional Railway Manager, Eastern Railway, Sealdah Division.
