G20 Summit: Biden, Xi, Erdogan among 25+ world leaders to be present at Delhi high table
The G20 Summit, the most influential gathering of world leaders, is set to take place in New Delhi on September 9 and 10, 2023. The event will bring together the heads of state and government of 19 countries and the European Union, as well as invited guests from other nations and international organizations. The summit will be hosted by India, which has assumed the presidency of G20 for the year 2023.
The theme for the G20 Summit 2023 under India's presidency is - Vasudhavia Kutumbakam, which translates to One Earth, One Family, One Future. India's theme also highlights the concept of LiFE - Lifestyle for Environment. LiFE focuses on emphasising sustainable growth and choices.
The summit will be held at Bharat Mandapam International Exhibition-Convention Centre (IECC), Pragati Maidan, in New Delhi. The venue is a state-of-the-art facility that can accommodate up to 7,000 delegates and has a total area of 1.19 lakh square meters. The venue also boasts of green features such as solar panels, rainwater harvesting, and waste management systems.
Some of the prominent leaders who are expected to attend the summit include US President Joseph R. Biden Jr., Chinese President Xi Jinping, Turkish President Recep Tayyip ErdoÄŸan, Russian President Vladimir Putin, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Pierre James Trudeau.
The agenda for the summit will cover a wide range of issues such as global health and pandemic response, climate change and energy transition, economic recovery and resilience, digital transformation and innovation, trade and investment, gender equality and women's empowerment, education and skills development, infrastructure and connectivity, and global governance reform.
The summit will also provide an opportunity for dialogue and cooperation among the leaders on various regional and global challenges such as the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the situation in Afghanistan, the nuclear proliferation in Iran and North Korea, the maritime disputes in the South China Sea and the Indian Ocean, the humanitarian crisis in Syria and Yemen, the terrorism and extremism in Africa and Asia, and the human rights violations in Myanmar and Xinjiang.
The G20 Summit 2023 is expected to be a landmark event that will shape the future of the world in the post-pandemic era. It will also showcase India's role as a responsible global leader that is committed to fostering peace, stability, prosperity, and sustainability for all.
